Oconee Similes and Analogies

It is time to ask the Oconee County Board of Commissioners for the resignation of County Attorney Daniel Haygood. His performance during this entire episode has been reprehensible. The duty of the County Attorney is not to keep secrets from the people that he serves. Outgoing Oconee County Commissioner Don Norris did us all a favor by letting his true feelings known in the recent interview with the Athens Banner-Herald's Adam Thompson. It is time to make our feelings known in each and every meeting with the Oconee County Board of Commissioners. I do not think these people are actively in conspiracy with developers to deny the Oconee County citizenry any information, however their tactics suggest a contempt for any attempt at getting documents, news and facts to the people about how government does and does not work for some of the people most of the time.

On Lee Becker's website he clearly explains the myriad of reasons why Haygood should be discharged immediately in his most recent post. There does seem to be a multitude of reasons why the Oconee County Board of Commissioners should make this come to pass sooner than later. If shady backroom deals is your idea of good government, then please continue to make plans and discussions away from the sunlight of open process. We have a right to know. We have a need to know. Anything short of this is unacceptable.

Friends,

What do naysayers, fleas on dogs, and thugs using brass knuckles on their tongues (sorry about that one) have in common?

To learn the answer, you'll have to go to my blog, www.oconeecountyobservations.blogspot.com

But I'll give a hint:

Today's blog posting is about the relationship between citizens and their Oconee County government, and it begins with a complaint by just-retired Board of Commissioners member Don Norris about citizen use of open records laws to learn what their government is doing.

The blog is quite lengthy, but I think you'll learn something about Oconee County by reading it and following the various links.

And you'll learn what naysayers, fleas on dogs and thugs with brass knuckles on their tongues (sorry again) have in common.

Enjoy!

Lee
