Best wishes for Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle's recovery

I have always thought fondly of Lt. Governor Casey Cagle since he rescued the state of Georgia with the specter of Ralph Reed as second in command. I thought he was the odds-on favorite for Governor post-Sonny Perdue. Now the race is truly wide open. Roy Barnes has yet to announce, and technically I do not think General Poythress has announced either (but I could be wrong on that). It will be interesting to see how this shift shakes the Georgia Gubernatorial race 2010 and this weekend when Poythress and perhaps Attorney General Thurbert Baker and Representative DuBose Porter make an appearance in Oconee County at the Veterans Memorial Park's Tennis Pavilion to the back left in the massive new complex at 3500 Hog Mountain Road from 3-5 pm.

Somebody should have extended an invitation to Roy Barnes to come to Oconee County as well.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
