Oconee road widenings remain on go-ahead list of MACORTS plan | News | OnlineAthens.com

Simonton Bridge Road is far too narrow (dangerously narrow for bicyclists) already and I am glad that it is included on the MACORTS plan for widening along with Hog Mountain, Mars Hill and Experiment Station sometime in the next quarter century. Dan, standard GDOT approaches to widening would destroy the character of Simonton Bridge Road. Adding just bike lanes would be a good compromise, but widening the road to four lanes (or maybe even three lanes) would ruin one of the last scenic routes between Clarke and Oconee county. Unless it is something vastly different than 441 or Epps Bridge, rest assured widening Simonton Bridge would be bad news for Watkinsville and Oconee, never mind cyclists.
