Let the onslaught commence

Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry is a true professional law enforcement provider and is talking to both sides of the aisle before the protests start Saturday morning at Oconee Veterans Park near Watkinsville near what some once labeled the Eastville area of unincorporated Oconee County, Georgia.

Berry, an acknowledged Republican, responded quickly to a fax to come to the library a day early at the total fault of this writer, when in fact the Oconee County Democratic Committee is meeting Thursday evening at the Library to make signs for their counter demonstration supporting President Barack Obama's efforts at health care reform. They will appear at the front of the park as to not curry complete confrontation with their conservative counterparts contemplating ways at killing any attempts at health care reform.

"Y'all are not the ones I am worried about," quipped Berry to Veit late Wednesday evening. Apparently the Sheriff was going to try to talk with the local GOP leaders as well prior to all the histrionics Saturday morning when the need for synchronized traffic lights will be revealed for real to every soccer parent in Oconee County having to traverse the State Route 53/Hog Mountain Road gauntlet to either the neighboring Herman C. Michael and or Oconee Veterans parks,

What we do know at this late hour: Oconee County Democratic Committee chair Jonathan Veit and event organizer Michelle Smith will be on NewsTalk 1340 WGAU AM's "Newsmaker Thursday" program with Tim Bryant 9:06 am to 9:58:30 or thereabouts. Athens Banner-Herald reporter and blogger Blake Aued laughed at Veit's Lou Holtz impression as well by ramping up the expectations of attendance for the GOP size of devotees to death panels.

What we do not know: whether any elected officials will show up and speak such as Congressman Paul Broun (who lives about 10 minutes away) or how many parking spots will be gone for the many soccer parents in that park. Nor do we know how ridiculous some of the signs might be. Nor do we know if the Oconee News Leader full page color advertising actually was paid for, or if the group putting on the event is registered as a political action committee with the Secretary of State. But all this will be revealed in good time. We should know more by this time tomorrow evening. There should be a good number of folks out at the Oconee Veterans Park about 10 am Saturday morning.
