Watkinsville Municipal Election 2009 information

NOTICE OF ELECTION



Election for Mayor, presently held by Jim Luken; Council Post 1 presently held by Brian Brodrick; and Council Post 2 presently held by John Walsh will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 during the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Watkinsville Community Center for Watkinsville West voters and at the Oconee Government Annex for Watkinsville East voters in Watkinsville, Georgia (please see voter registration card). Provided no changes in the county voting location, the location you vote in the county election is same location you will vote in the city election; however, city and county elections will be separate.



Those candidates elected as Mayor and to Posts 1 and 2 in the 2009 General Election shall serve a term of office of two years, commencing on January 1, 2010. Persons seeking election as a member of Council must designate the particular post for which they are offering as candidate. Candidates receiving a plurality of the votes cast for Council posts shall be declared the winner.

Candidates desiring to qualify for said election can qualify at the Watkinsville City Hall (191 VFW Drive) during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, starting Monday, August 31, 2009 through Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Qualifying fee is three (3) percent of salary (Mayor- $216.00; Council members- $72.00).

Candidates must be at least 21 years of age and a resident of the City for at least one year prior to the election. A candidate must be a qualified voter of the City registered to vote at least 30 days prior to the election and must never have been convicted of election fraud, a felony, crime involving moral turpitude or malfeasance in office.



All qualified voters of the City of Watkinsville registered 30 days prior to election may vote in said election. All qualified voters wishing to utilize advance voting may do so during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day starting Monday, October 26, 2009 through Friday, October 30, 2009 at 191 VFW Drive, Watkinsville, Georgia 30677. Also, with certain restrictions, persons may vote in person at Watkinsville City Hall, 191 VFW Drive, during the Absentee Voting period: Monday - Friday, October 12-16; and Monday thru Friday October 19-23, from 8:30 a.m. to Noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you have questions, please call Watkinsville City Hall @ (706) 769-5161.
