Congrats to new business owners and candidates

Watkinsville has been going through the same economic shifts as the rest of the county, but a seemingly high number of local businesses have gone through transfers of ownership or location lately.

Full Moon Studios shifted ownership with Mark Cooper Smith letting Charlie Garrett take over the reigns at the location of the Oconee School of Rock and any number of local music recordings ranging from the new program on Rock 100.7 called Athens Outside In to projects by the Indigo Girls, Vic Chesnutt, Five Eight, Magnapop and many others.

Sweet ReTreat just shifted owners as well after the current ownership had offered the business for sale for some time. The location was very busy there this first Friday as Miss Vickie introduced me to the new owner, and she seemed like a very gracious host as well. They had free cupcakes as part of the First Friday celebration downtown.

Big props to the First Christian Church for having karaoke and miniature golf to go with their train around the newly surfaced parking lot. They also were giving out free water and selling lemonade the like to the many passers by. Kids were heard trying to belt out "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" while parents took their turns on classics by the Supremes and Hootie and the Blowfish among many others.

Peggy Holcomb and outgoing Mayor Jim Luken did their usual exemplary duty filling balloons and keeping the kids circulating through the moonwalk inflatable fun down closer to Eagle Tavern. Many balloons were seen floating to the sky and many children thanked Jim for jamming them in the bouncy bounce.

Art Masters' owner Geoff Seila sat working in his new location, putting the finishing touches on his new location at 18 N. Main.

New city council member Henry Norman was in line to get Mr. Clown to twist up some balloon creation for his daughter outside of Barberitos. Owner David Weeks shuttled to and from his two restaurants and gave no indication of his or the Board of Education's actions against recently terminated North Oconee High School Principal John Osborne. More than one Oconee County School System ex-employee had vowed never to darken the doorway of either Barberitos or the newly acqured Mirko's Pasta.
