What is the future of Oconee County, Georgia?

What awaits us all in the near future for Oconee County? When will we pay our most deserving volunteer Firemen? When will the economy begin to effect more positive growth in our already overbuilt homes and subdivisons?

Why do parents have to complain to the Board of Education to get comparably equal facilities for the high schools? When will we ever see sidewalks and bike paths in our county instead of the stubs of unbuilt developments?

What will it take to get the police department of Watkinsville to work well (or at least better) with the Sheriff Department of Oconee County? When will the sanitary sewer be extended to either Bishop or Bogart? What will the next scandal be at the Board of Education?

When are Oconee County voters going to decide they have had enough?

How many dozens of kids will be pulled out of public schools to go to private schools or be home schooled? When are we going to start putting our public safety interests ahead of our fear of taxes?

What will it take to make people realize we are losing what makes Oconee County great? What makes Oconee County a wonderful place to live (besides the people and school system)? Why does development only concern developers? When will the Planning Commission get someone else besides white male developers?

What awaits the next generation of students, voters, parents and people moving to Oconee County? Is there ever enough answers to the many questions I pose?

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
