Don't miss upcoming strolls!

My good friend Geoff will provide an interesting and engaging stroll this Saturday morning, and I will attend as well.

Watkinsville's founding will be the subject of this week's "Saturday
Stroll." Geoff Seila, who holds a degree in history from UGA, will lead
the hour-long tour, which starts at 9 AM. You'll learn about an old
fort, a spring -- and more!

Seila owns Art Masters gallery in Watkinsville. He sells folk art and
does custom framing at the gallery, which has recently moved closer to
the central business district (to 18 North Main). Seila is also an avid
record collector and hopes to one day start a low-power radio station in
Watkinsville.

Each week the volunteer guide determines which charity will receive the $5 per person fee; Seila has chosen the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of his uncle Robert Lee Seila, who passed away recently after a short battle with myelogenous dysplasia disorder.

And the stroll on the 17th will be led by the wonderful Dr. Robert
Wyatt, a professor emeritus of UGA's School of Botany. He'll lead a
tree identification hike around town. The stroll that day will be a
great kick-off for the fall festivities in Watkinsville, where you'll
find great-quality crafts, events for kids, a huge yard sale, and more.

Stroll participants meet each Saturday in front of the Oconee County
Courthouse (23 North Main Street in Watkinsville) -- across from the
Saturday Farmers Market at the Eagle Tavern.

The Saturday Stroll series, scheduled through the end of October, has
been organized by the Oconee Democrats to help people develop a deeper sense of place through more knowledge about the city's built and natural environment and its fine people.

No advance reservations are necessary. Children under 12 are admitted free. For more information on the Saturday strolls scheduled through the end of October, check out http://www.oconeedemocrats.org or contact me!

Thanks!
