North High Shoals mayor Jeff Thomas finally resigns, feeling he's unneeded by Joe VanHoose

Now former Mayor Jeff Thomas of North High Shoals is a man of many cloths, and we wish him well in all his future endeavors. I think he will remain quite busy with his family's nursing home on the edge of the city limits, not to mention his church and family. He was always appropriately entertaining when participating in local politics, wearing red on Valentine's Day, that sort of thing.

This process has been several years and multiple personalities ~ some even passed on now for several years ~ whose real estate, living situations, rental properties, hired help, scandals and assorted other skeletons in the closet are much the subject of gossip and whisper campaigns on all three sides of the big bubbling rocks on the Apalachee River at the confluence of Morgan, Walton, and Oconee counties.

North High Shoals is a wonderful town full of interesting individuals, some well educated, others woefully ignorant, that will always occupy a place near and dear to my heart. Now that both former council member and Walton County educator (and Duke University wrestler) Fred Johnson has decided not seek re-election and Thomas has ended his nearly two decades at the helm of the small town, life will go on in North High Shoals with a new Mayor-designate in longtime city council member Violet Dawe until a special election can be held in March.
