Watkinsville pool helps Walton County swimmers in year-round coaching

Any athletic competition at even a semi-elite level is now basically year-round for kids from about sixth grade on. Ask any parents of an aspiring gymnast, cheerleader, swimmer or soccer player when the seasons end and you might get a smile and a response of "never." The same might be said for tennis and baseball players and we all know of spring football to go with the regular seasons. Here in Oconee County we have the Georgia Aquatics Center now propelling water athletes toward the levels of the Athens Bulldog Swim Club or SwimAtlanta. Will there ever be more of a local Oconee County based team ~ besides the neighborhood swim teams ~ to take the best swimmers to compete on a state wide level?

Laura Thomas has started a wonderful year-round swim team called Swim Oconee. Go to www.soswimming.com and check it out. They swim at the Northwest Woods/Oconee Club pool under a dome. Its a family-like team and has MUCH more personalized coaching than we see other places. Laura Thomas is a first class coach.
