Mob squad wants to scour Harris Shoals clean April 24th

The latest incarnation of Keep Oconee County (Clean and) Beautiful will attempt to clean up all the garbage in Watkinsville's Harris Shoals Park in what they are marketing as Make Oconee Beautiful or MOB squad. They are engineering an attack 9:00 am Saturday morning, April 24, 2010 with bags and gloves furnished. April is, after all, litter clean up month.

I would suggest they splinter an expedition across that ridiculously busy Experiment Station Road and pick up garbage in that no man's land over there too as there appears to be a bunch of refuse strewn about the creek and the steep and rocky walls.  They need your help, and you will be reminded several dozen times between now and then.

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
