Hate speech on local sports talk needs to stop

For the second day in a row May 5th, 2010, notorious local sports radio mouthpiece and recently DUI accused Georgia fan Jeff Dantzler of Cox Radio's 960 the Ref (broadcast out of Bogart) decided to needlessly inject a political slur into what is usually a fairly entertaining and informative afternoon talk show. Neither time, taken by themselves, would warrant any action, but this is not Dantzler's first trip to the woodshed, so to speak. Jeff's antipathy toward anyone left of Ronald Reagan is well known, but this time he decided that all left wingers hate our government.

I responded for the second day in a row in the most effective way possible, and that is turning off the radio.

I would expect something this sophomoric and juvenile out of someone with much less experience that Dantzler. Anyone who even gives a casual listen to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or Neal Boortz would realize the standard operating procedure of right wing radio talk show hosts is to decry how liberals LOVE the government, not hate it. Dantzler must get his jollies now from poking liberals in the ribs since he probably knows better than to continue to frequent adult entertainment establishments.

Dantzler knows more about University of Georgia sports than anyone on the planet, but his political knowledge is limited to what he deems acceptable. I think he should stick to talking about the Dawgs.

Basically when I listen to sports talk, whether it is local hosts Stephen Hartzell or David Johnston in the morning, or ESPN's Colin Cowherd there after, Ryen Rusillo or Scott Van Pelt following that, I do not mind a little bit of political input as long as it is not flat out incorrect or incendiary. Just talk about sports and leave the political hate speech to those who know what they are talking about, or get another show on one of the other Cox radio networks that cater to the kind of crude comments you refer to. More and more radios in the largely liberal Athens-Clarke area will continue to switch stations or turn him off completely should it continue.
