Suzy Compere introduces herself to the Oconee Democrats
House District 113th Democratic candidate Suzy Compere addressed and answered the considerable questions of the Oconee County Democratic Committee meeting Wednesday evening at the Oconee County Governmental Annex.
The Bostwick activist has worked with many well known and hallowed Georgia political giants ranging from Frank Stancil to Zell Miller. She was urged to run and received assistance in paying for qualifying fees from a wide array of powerful Democratic candidates from Governor among many others including former Athenian Stephanie Stuckey Benfield of Decatur and Patsy Harris of Franklin County.
She runs on ambition with compassion and supports small businesses as the main economic generators as she is a small business owner and successful non-profit organizer. She has given away greenhouses out of state but cannot find a governmental entity to accept one here. Compere is the granddaughter of an Arkansas activist during the Faubus years. She is a pro-jobs Democrat ready to give a hand up, not a hand out and bring money back to Georgia with green economy in the 113th, including solar and wind.
This common sense candidate faces a strong up hill battle in a 73% Republican district, but the fact that she can mount an insurgency campaign at all shows a certain spunk and tenacity not seen in local Democratic candidates recently. She knows how poorly Georgia has grown almost to a halt under the do nothing, tax and fee increasing Republican politicians, and how to get us all back on our feet with a robust growing economy again.
She has been both a sculptor and remains a litigation expert consultant. Compere made ties for President Bill Clinton and has also been sprayed by herbicide.
We will be hearing and seeing much more out of Suzy Compere from her hilltop in Bostwick. Her children went to school in Morgan County's public system and this is where she cut her teeth in an every day activist way. She has the vision to unite the rural with the suburban in our communities cutting out sprawl. Compere was welcomed to the recent Bishop town dinner by business owners who knew her grandfather and a local videographer who had filmed a commercial for Frank Stancil at her house in Bostwick.
Fundraisers, phone banks and campaigning will provide Oconee County voters with an opportunity to learn more about Suzy Compere's ideas about bringing green recycling jobs to the area like they have in Marietta and putting a halt to a potential 25 story mega dump near Madison where California could send their garbage. Where she will stand on issues like a State Park at Elder Mill Covered Bridge or a River Trail along the Apalachee remain to be be seen, but I think all bicyclists, farmers, teachers, students and small business owners will be much better off with Suzy Compare as their State Representative than any of the choices offered up by the Republicans who have gotten in all this mess. Give Suzy Compere a chance to answer your questions about smart growth, connectivity in our neighborhoods, transportation and green economy at equilibrium.earth.ltd@gmail.com.
We will learn more about her as the campaign deveops and find out if she will be facing the young Mr. Shook, the perpetual candidate in Malcom or the bureaucrat in Huckabee after the primary and run-off drain the GOP coffers. At least we have a real race for all of us political junkies to gnaw on for the next six months.
