OCCO annual meeting and signage efforts

The person on Oconee County Land Use and Transportation Committee who somehow suggested the Bike Athens has infiltrated this organization is an embittered, angry old man and now an ex member of the citizens committee. The people on this new Oconee County Cycling Organization run - or pedal -  the gamut from extremely conservative to rather progressive and represent a good cross section of Oconee County bicyclists.

Dear Friends,

I'm finally getting a chance to write and update everyone on the OCCO meeting held this past Monday.  It's been a busy week!

My thanks to all who attended.  It was a great meeting!  Around 25 people were able to attend, which is a great turnout considering this was our first official member meeting.

We presented to the members an overview of our OCCO accomplishments to-date.  I've attached that presentation as a PDF for all to see.  I am very proud of our success so far.  We still have much more to do in the years ahead.

The final item of official business on Monday was to elect the new OCCO Board of Directors.  We have assembled a great representation of the cycling community in Oconee County.  The Board of Directors are:
• Patrick Beall
• John Dewey
• Tony Glenn
• Bethany Goldman
• Brett Haslam
• Jimmy Marbut
• Richard McSpadden
• Kathleen Miller
• Jim Shanni
• Steve Shiver
• Adam Traill

I want to extend a personal thanks to Steve Kogan.  Steve served on the interim Board over the past several months, and we are all very grateful for his hard work.  He'll still be helping and looks forward to our future activities.

Lastly, as many of you know, OCCO presented a proposal to the Oconee County citizens advisory Land Use and Transportation Planning Committee on Tuesday evening.  We presented a plan to have more Share the Road signage installed on roads that are popular with cyclists.  Unfortunately our proposal was not received warmly, and the end result is that our request has been tabled.  For details I point you to Lee Becker's blog.

We will be coming back to you later with more details on how you can help us with this and additional efforts.  Stay tuned.

My personal thanks to all of you for supporting OCCO.  We have a beautiful county for riding.  And we have great friends to ride with.  We are fortunate for this.

Bethany Goldman
Pedal safely,
Tony Glenn
