-New Running Store Will Offer Pre-Race Discounts to Registrants-
-Runners and Walkers Welcome at October 16 Race-

WATKINSVILLE, Ga., October 8 – The Scarecrow 5K, Oconee County’s oldest road race, is pleased to announce that specialty running store Totally Running will be the presenting sponsor for the race this year.
Totally Running opened its local store in August between the Kroger and Home Depot off of Epps Bridge Parkway. It is the first multi-brand specialty running store in Oconee County and greater Athens, and offers a diverse selection of running shoes, apparel and accessories, as well as custom gait analysis and a knowledgeable staff that help runners make shoe choices that improve their stride and reduce chances of injury. The store also includes a wide selection of soccer shoes and apparel.

“We are thrilled to have Totally Running available to local runners and to have them as a partner with the Scarecrow,” said Race Director Kevin Brodrick. “Interest in the sport is higher than ever.”

The 37th edition of the race, which will be held at 8 a.m. on October 16, begins at Watkinsville First United Methodist Church. A one mile fun run will follow the completion of the 5k (3.1 mile) distance. Both runners and walkers are welcome. Entry forms are available online at http://www.runningintheusa.com/crs/, at the Oconee Chamber, and other local restaurants and sponsors. Runners can also register at active.com.
Several other local businesses will sponsor the race, including Barberitos, Carter Engineering, The AdSmith, SpringHill Suites Oconee, Tifosi Optics, Fortson, Bentley & Griffin, Publix, Hawthorne Medical Associates, and Trinity Accounting.

As part of its sponsorship, Totally Running will pay the entry fee ($17-20) for the race for runners who purchase shoes or provide a discount to those who are running the race based on the price of their purchase. These discounts will be $20 off any regularly priced pair of shoes, $10 off any purchase of $50 or more, and $30 off any purchase of $150 or more. These offers cannot be combined together or with other discounts.
As in past years, the top three in each age group will get custom pottery as awards. The overall and masters male and female winners will also get a gift certificate for a free night’s stay at the Spring Hill Suites Oconee on Daniell’s Bridge Road off of University Parkway.

All race proceeds go to the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce, which puts the funds to use supporting education in Oconee County with scholarships and teacher awards, and by working to improve economic conditions in our community.
