Vote 2010 campaign update

Friend --

With Labor Day behind us, today marks the traditional start of the final stretch of campaign season.

We've got a lot of work left ahead of us, but I want to make sure you know exactly where we are -- and where we're heading over the next 56 days.

So I recorded a campaign update at OFA HQ to illustrate what you've helped build -- and to show you why we think the pundits are missing a key part of the story of 2010.

Watch the update, and then please make a donation of $5 or more to help execute our Vote 2010 plan:

Watch the strategy update.

Republicans believe they have a lot of reasons to feel optimistic this fall.

They have made it clear what their goal is -- take control of the Senate and the House of Representatives, and roll back everything we've accomplished so far. Of the hundreds of races, control of both chambers could come down to just a few key contests decided by a handful of votes.

That's where you come in. Barack Obama was only elected president because of the work that you did -- and we'll only be able to keep moving America forward if we work together to do it again.

See how, and chip in $5 or more to help:

Thanks for all you do,

David Plouffe

A.J. Green eligibility ostensibly revolves around jersey sale on Ebay

University of Georgia All American wide receiver Adriel Jeremiah “A. J.” Green did not play in the Bulldogs opener against Louisiana-Lafayette, and the reason is ostensibly because of an ongoing NCAA investigation of whether Green sold a game-worn autographed number 8 jersey of his for $1,000.00, probably on the online auction site Ebay. Green supposedly has not fessed up to the online sale yet.

The Summerville, South Carolina native is very much needed to play this week against his home state South Carolina Gamecock football team of Coach Steve Spurrier, according to most football analysts.

None of this speculation has been substantiated or corroborated elsewhere, but the University of Georgia Athletic Association attorneys are involved with the investigation, according to consistent denials for comment from UGA coach Mark Richt. Initial reports concerned Green's attendance at a party in South Beach part of Miami, Florida at an agent's behest, but the Georgia wide receiver has never been to Miami, according to reports.

Current "Buy it Now" prices for a game worn UGA jersey ranged from $99.00 to $259.00 Tuesday afternoon on Ebay. This does not take into effect authenticity, autographs or the bidding process (which obviously can quickly elevate the price of collectible sports memorabilia).

Nine UGA players were forced to buy new SEC championship rings for $300 each in 2003 after selling them on Ebay including Oconee County High School athlete Tony Taylor in what became known as "Ringgate."

Subject: This Labor Day

Dear Dan,

On this Labor Day holiday, one in ten Georgians is out of work, and many others who work hard and play by the rules every day are experiencing tough times and are worried about their family's future.

While our country is in difficult times, Georgians are facing greater pain than most. Without question, Georgia's next governor will inherit the difficult task of steering our state out of this mess.

When I was Governor, we experienced a similar economic downturn after September 11th.  I was forced to make difficult decisions and prioritize our spending, but by the end of my term we had created 235,000 jobs, unemployment remained under 5 percent, the state's gross domestic product grew by $51 billion (almost 20 percent), and Georgia's annual personal income increased by nearly $46 billion (22 percent).   Today, Georgia is falling behind, but I have a plan to Make Georgia Work - and I don't need on-the-job training.
So, this Labor Day, let's take a moment to enjoy some downtime with friends and family.  And come tomorrow; let's join together these last 56 days to restore the Georgia values and strong leadership that brought our state growth, opportunity and far-reaching prosperity.

Together, let's make Georgia work.

Sincerely,
Roy

Facebook page mocking principal is taken offline || OnlineAthens.com

My understanding is that there is a small rebellion brewing amongst the North Oconee HS students and some parents from the heavy handed tactics of the current administration, and this Facebook page is merely a symptom of that displeasure. Remember the Titans previous principal was extremely popular with the students and parents

Russell Edwards fundraiser in Oglethorpe County September 28

Dear Friends in Clarke and Oconee Counties,
As we head into the November midterm elections, voters in Georgia's 10th Congressional District will be faced with the prospect of extending the term of our current U.S. Representative, Republican Paul Broun Jr., a favorite of the Tea Parties and the John Birch Society, who first gained national attention for himself and our district by comparing President Obama to Adolf Hitler.  Because of his purported ideological opposition to “Big Government,” he has refused to seek federal funds that would benefit our small businesses and schools and has fought against regulation of the banking industry.
We think our district deserves better.  The Oglethorpe County Democratic Party throws its wholehearted support behind Democrat Russell Edwards, who urges us to work together to send responsible leadership to Washington.  Read more about Russell’s campaign platform at his website, www.russelledwardsforcongress.com.
Please join the Oglethorpe Democrats in supporting Russell Edwards at an informal House Party fundraiser on Tuesday, September 28, at 7:00 p.m.  Potluck dinner will be provided, and Russell will be there to meet voters and answer questions.  We are asking for a minimum contribution of $25 per person.  Ticket buyers will automatically be entered in a drawing to win a $50 gift card to Advance Auto Parts!
What:  House Party for Russell Edwards
When:  Tuesday, September 28, 7:00 p.m.
Where:  19 Lakeshore Drive, Crawford, just before the gate into Bryan Park
Checks payable to: "Russell Edwards for Congress", c/o Oglethorpe Democrats, P.O. Box 445, Lexington, GA, 30648
Contact:  Victor Gagliano, 706-224-2653
Sponsored by:  The Oglethorpe County Democratic Committee, Victor Gagliano, Chairman; Norma Sanders, Treasurer; Amy Glinski, Secretary
We hope you will join us in welcoming Russell Edwards to Oglethorpe County on September 28.  Thank you in advance for your support!
Sincerely,
Laura Floyd

Dear reader of the amazing Oconee Politics blog,
Our campaign to send responsible leadership to Congress is in full swing.

Over the past month, we’ve hired key staff and worked to share our message with voters of all backgrounds and walks of life, making 1,472 phone calls in just the past week.

I am proud to have received endorsements from the Georgia Association of Educators, the AFL-CIO, and community leaders throughout northeast Georgia.

Our work has only just begun -- in the coming weeks, we’ll hire additional field organizers, full-service media and polling firms, and we’ll spread our message across the 10th district through various media advertisements.

It’s time for our district to send responsible leadership to Congress. We need a representative who will fight to create jobs in our community and support our schools, and we need your support.

We have less than two months left to take the fight to Paul Broun, Jr., and we need volunteers to help us spread our message. Can you donate your time to help us knock on doors and call voters in our district?

We have phone banks every Tuesday and Thursday at our office at 1063 Baxter Street. The next one is this Tuesday, September 7, from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. Our first canvass will be Saturday, September 18. We need your help to win this election.

Thank you for your support. Together we can win this race.

Yours,

Russell Edwards
