Pictures from Winterville Marigold Festival

I really enjoyed campaigning in Winterville at the Marigold Festival last weekend. This was really the first event of my fledging campaign for the House District 113 Special Election (EARLY VOTING BEGINS WEDNESDAY), and I owe this opportunity to Mark Farmer, city council for Winterville who hooked me up with the right folks for the Marigold Festival organizers.

The organizers were extremely competent and welcoming, making every one I met feel like they were right at home.

I finally met Alan Alexander face to face and a couple of children and returned some signs he had given me before my getting in the race. He drove around in a red convertible while I was walking it with my son. I have talked to him on the telephone many times at work, and he has a deep recognizable voice.

It was amazing seeing all the people gathered on the square and fun to meet the people in the parade. That was without a doubt the quickest mile I have ever walked. It was over before it began as far as it seemed afterward. I am really grateful because my late entry in to the race for the 113th House Race meant I was way beyond the deadline, but the organizers welcomed me without question. I love a small town for many reasons, but the lack of hassle is always at the top of the list.

The Arnoldsville Fire Department truck was the loudest fire truck I have ever  and I salute the amazing efforts of the volunteer fire department. I still think anyone in public service who puts their life on the line daily deserves some sort of compensation, but their volunteer efforts inspire and amaze me. I am in awe of their abilities and efforts.  My son saw one of his teachers in the audience, and we were happy to wave and say hello. We were behind the Classic City Twirlers and those young ladies knew how to toss and catch a baton very well.

This was not my first parade, having been in the Watkinsville Christmas parade a couple of times now. But there is something I love about a small town that welcomes everyone to line the streets. It is always a blast to see the Classic City Rollergirls doing their thing too. Everybody loves a parade.
