Questions of the day

Why would a failing bank in Oconee County make a $6.8 million loan to a project in Lovejoy, a 103 miles away? We need to know answers, Chuck Williams, and how can the voters of the 113th trust you as a State Representative when you do not follow the rules and laws of banking to the detriment of your non-FDIC investors? Why appoint people to the board of North Georgia Bank with no financial experience? Why do you not replace people who have died on the Board of Directors?

North Oconee High School is going to have a large car museum across the street thanks to that foreclosure sale Saturday by UGA. Because the University of Georgia was a land grant University founded before 1790, they can simply receive the property of the J. Phil Campbell Sr. Natural Resource and Ag Center from the Federal Government gratis. Getting an extra $300,000.00 for property valued at $600,000.00 (that's $900,000.00 total) is no way to run a campaign for State Representative either.

Are you tired of the shady shenanigans, scams and back room dealings by developers and failed bankers that seem to go on with no end? Do you want a State Representative that will listen to you, call you back, respond to your emails, and answer your questions? Do you want someone who will fight for you and your family and shares your values? Someone who shares your passion for the precious resources we have in the 113th, instead of clear cutting with slash and burn tactics? Vote for me, Dan Matthews, starting June 1st, at your local court house in Lexington, Madison, Athens or Watkinsville. Or be sure to vote Tuesday, June 21st, at your normal polling place. This election is far too important to settle for second best. Elect someone you know and trust, and do not fall victim to the "sheeple" syndrome. Understand that the voters of the 113th are entirely too intelligent to vote to someone simply because they think they are owed a position.

For those of you who do not know me, I will work to gain and maintain your trust. I will learn every day something new and different about Georgia. I am running because I want to show my son what it means to stand for something, to draw a line in the sand (of the Apalachee?), to demonstrate that this election is much more than three Republicans versus one Democratic candidate. It is time to take the veil off of the secrecy and sleaziness that has resulted in so many unfinished developments and cinder blocked entrances to subdivisions that will never see homes. This goes well beyond mere partisan bickering and should instead focus on what we all can agree on to address the most urgent needs (water, jobs). We have cut and cut to the bone in areas of education and cannot afford to diminish our children's educational opportunities anymore.

We do have a chance to make things better for everyone in the 113th (except maybe those wanting to line their pockets off this election). Please go vote in Bogart, in Bostwick, in Crawford and in Crystal Hills. Vote for the residents of Whippoorwill Road, of Highway 78, vote for the folks on Morrison Avenue and all four sections of Barnett Shoals. I cannot possibly solve every problem facing everyone in the 113th House District, but together we can make a difference in trying to tackle one problem at a time.

Water, jobs, the economy and attracting business are the best issues I want to take on, but I want to hear from you about how you think we can work together for the most favorable and positive solutions. Six word slogans are not going to do a damn thing to fix any of the complex topics facing the voters and residents of the 113th House District, but hard work with a whole lot of listening, sweat and passion will be a start with me.  I will do everything I possibly can short of going out there to direct traffic myself to make sure Highway 316 is going to be safer. I would like to see rail lines used to their maximum capacity for freight and for people. I will do my best for the people in this area in these issues and more. Yes I will keep the parks and recreational facilities open and running for everyone. I support environmental stewardship hand in hand with smart growth planning and development. We have an amazing area that needs to be preserved, not exploited.

I ask for your vote this election because I want to be your public servant. I believe it is a noble pursuit. I do not posses a tenth of the budget of my opponents because I think it is an immaculate waste of precious resources in a sour economy, and no one has any more money to hand out anyhow. You will get candor, you will hear some humor, and you might even get a bit of profanity every now and then from me. The government of Georgia deserves no less. Please give me a chance to represent you this election for the House District Special Election against three Republican candidates Tuesday, June 21 or thirteen advance voting days in the 113th in Georgia.
