So who knows the inside skinny on Mr. Ivie?

Charles Ivie is the first person to come forward and announce that he will run for mayor of Watkinsville.

“All my life I have been interested in politics,” said Ivie. “I have often thought that when I retired I would offer for a council post. I have no aspirations to go beyond the mayor’s office.”

Ivie is in his 32nd year as a representative for Baldwin Filters, a company based in Nebraska. But he said he would be retired by January, when the term will begin.

Ivie previously served on the town council of Watkinsville. Born in Farmington, he has lived in Oconee County all of his life, and he has lived in his current home for 40 years.

Watkinsville Mayor Joe Walter announced at the most recent council meeting that he was not going to run for reelection.
