CRITICAL details: Georgia Redistricting Proposal

Subject: Fw: CRITICAL details: Georgia Redistricting Proposal

As the legislature begins hearings on redistricting proposals, the State Committee is encouraging all of us to pay attention to what is happening in Atlanta and, if possible, to attend various events this week and next organized around the issue of redistricting.  All of us should read Lee Becker's blog on the subject too.  The subject will be on our agenda this Thursday, Septemeber 18, at 7:30 pm at the Government Annex.

Dear Democratic Party Leaders,

I am writing to follow up with you with further details regarding Leader Abrams' request for our support of the House and Senate Democratic Caucuses during the redistricting session.

Our main focus for the week will be encouraging as many Democrats as possible to attend the hearing on the proposed maps for the Georgia General Assembly.  It is important that we have a good showing and fill the halls of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building not only to hear what is said during these hearings, but to show the Republicans that we are paying attention to what they are attempting to do with these maps.  Please plan to attend the hearing, which will be held 2 pm on Tuesday, August 16 in room 606 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building (or CLOB as it is commonly known map). Be there early as seating will be limited and we want a full house for this event.

The Progressive Alliance will be organizing activities all week at the Capitol around redistricting.  If people can't make the event on Tuesday, they may be interested in participating on a different day next week.  The Progressive Alliance flyer is attached along with the Georgia Redistricting Democratic Talking Points document.

Also, please plan to join us for the Hope and Unity Rally at 9 am on August 22 on the Capitol Steps!

Please send this information out to your network and encourage them to attend
.  We look forward to seeing you at the Capitol for these important events during the Legislative Special Session.
