Drive carefully through Harris Shoals Park during paving


Weather permitting; resurfacing of Harris Shoals Park Road will begin Monday August 29th.  The project is expected to be completed by Friday, September 02.  The park will remain open during the work; however, the availability of parking will be limited and road construction equipment will be operating within the park during the hours of 7:00 AM and 6:00PM.  If you chose to visit the park during these times, please exercise caution.

The City appreciates your understanding and patience over the last few months as we have endeavored to make Watkinsville’s Harris Shoals Park a prettier park than before.  Except for some incidental items like additional picnic tables and personal grills, the road work should be the last big project for the park.  These improvements were made possible by revenue received through the Special Local Option Sales Tax ( SPLOST).

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
