Piedmont College's First doctoral graduates | Online Athens

Congratulations to Watkinsville's Mary Bradbury-Bailey in earning a doctorate at Piedmont College. I hope all area schools continue offer most any applicable masters, doctorate, or post-doctorate degrees to keep the considerable education and development dollars locally. One of the more ridiculous arguments I got in post-debate this past campaign season was whether or not Gainesville State College was in fact a feeder program for the University of Georgia. Seems this wife of the brother of the failed banker/state representative was most upset after her daughter graduated with a medical degree from the main campus that is in fact in Oakwood (and not inside Gainesville city limits). I think it would be great if medical degrees were available at the Oconee County campus. I am glad that four year degrees are finally available at Gainesville State College. I wish nothing but the best for this and every other institution of higher learning. It has nothing to do with whether they contributed the maximum to all your opponents and not a penny to you, someone who worked at the college and knows how poorly it is run. I do love Piedmont College, Gainesville State College, and all the other micro-campuses that seem to have come and gone in the area. Colleges are going to have to adapt in 2012 and beyond. It is no longer an area where campuses can dictate what the students are going learn, the institutes of higher learning are going to have to learn from the students what they need and are going to use in this new decade.
