Rebecca Skloot's "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" is the Oconee Democrats book of the month club selection Wednesday at Piccolo's Restaurant at Butler's Crossing
Hello!
On May 30th the book group sponsored by the Oconee Democrats will
discuss "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks."
The book, written by Rebecca Skloot, is a New York Times best seller
that's been on many best-of lists. Henrietta Lacks was a black woman
whose cells became integral to scientific discovery -- though her
offspring cannot afford medical care.
We believe as Democrats in the importance of science and justice!
The group meets at Piccolo's restaurant in the Bell's shopping center in
Watkinsville at 7 PM the last Wednesday of each month. Some people
arrive about 6:30 to order dinner or drinks and to chat.
The group is pretty diverse, including folks from 3 different counties
-- and even a Republican!
Drop in sometime for a fine conversation.
