Gainesville State College transforms to University of North Georgia
In a move expected to cost a significant sum for stationary and signage, Gainesville State College will now be known as the University of North Georgia and will presumably maintain a campus in the home county of Chancellor Hank Huckaby, and that is Oconee County. Whether we will have military drills on Bishop Farms Parkway is a matter yet to be determined. The name change is a result of the merger with North Georgia College (headquartered in Dahlonega) and Gainesville State College (whose main campus is actually in Oakwood, just outside of Gainesville proper). The campus just outside the 441 By-Pass near Watkinsville is expected to remain crowded with students who cannot maintain a high enough GPA at UGA.
