Atlanta, GA- The Young Democrats of Georgia have recruited members within its own ranks to challenge incumbent Republicans this election cycle. These individuals, from all parts of Georgia, will qualify this week to run for State House as Democrats.
"It is extremely important that Young Democrats continue to have a voice in Georgia politics" says Steve Golden, the organization's Executive Vice President. "Last legislative session was devastating to Georgia's students, young working professionals and graduates who are leaving high school and college with a bleak job market. We need more young voices under the gold dome fighting to restore the HOPE scholarship and working on productive solutions to Georgia's traffic and revenue nightmares."
Candidates include: Lauren Craddock, a Navy veteran who will challenge Rep. Ron Stephens in Savannah, Marc Silver, a HOPE scholarship recipient from Statesboro, Haley Shank, YDG's Women's Caucus Chair of Thomasville, Kevin Westphal, a longtime Young Democrat leader, and Teresa Lawrence, a mother of four living in Valdosta.
"We are proud that these Young Democrats are stepping up to challenge their incumbent elected officials" says Joel Mendelson, Political Director. "It is clear that these representatives have no interest in representing Georgia's young people, and we are ready to stand with these candidates and any other candidates and incumbents who will protect what is dear to us and fight with us for a better future."
