From the Jackson County Democrats:
We are really excited about the upcoming visit by Jody Cooley, our Democratic candidate for US Congress, on Thursday, October 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Clubhouse.
We strongly urge you to invite your friends and family to attend and meet Jody.
Because this is an "open" (and new) congressional district, there is no real favorite in this race and for the first time in a long time, we have an opportunity to elect a Democrat to represent us in Washington!
Jody has a simple yet powerful message. He strongly believes in "Country first, Common Sense, Compromise, and political Courage".
With the "stone age" thinking of some in Washington, it is time for reasonable people to stand up and be counted (as in "us!"). Can we count on you?
Call 706-367-0060 if you have any questions. We need you to help us, help Jody, and help re-elect Barack Obama in 2012.
From the Oconee County Democrats:
This month the community book group sponsored by the Oconee Democrats is reading Goodbye to All That, a memoir about WWI by poet Robert Graves.
The book is ranked #41 on the list of the Modern Library's best non-fiction works.
We usually meet the last Wednesday of the month, but that's Halloween this year, so we're meeting a week early -- on October 24 instead.
The group meets a little before 7 PM at Piccolo's restaurant in Watkinsville, with the book discussion beginning right at 7.
Newcomers and folks from any county and with any political views are welcome to join us.
Looking ahead to November: we'll be reading Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail by Hunter S. Thompson. This lively book, considered one of the classic books about political campaigns, focuses on the
Democrats' divisive primary battles of 1972.
Come join us to talk politics and history!

From the Rabun County Democrats:
We are looking forward to an old-fashioned political stump debate/election forum at The Northeast Georgian from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 9. Representatives from all of the newspapers will be present, and WCON will broadcast the congressional debate live.
The format for the evening is as follows:
● 5:30 to 5:40: Candidates Sonny James and Betty Lee Martin each will have five minutes to address the crowd on why they should be elected to the District 1 Habersham County Board of Commissioner seat.
● 5:40 to 5:50: Representatives of the Habersham County Republican party and the Habersham Democratic party will get five minutes each to say why we should vote for their candidate in the November presidential election.
● 5:50 to 6: Intermission with patriotic music.
● 6 to 7: 9th Congressional District Debate between Doug Collins and Jody Cooley.
During the Congressional Debate, three publishers from the newspapers will ask questions. Questions will be mailed in to WCON and to each of the publishers of the newspapers represented. A few questions will be called in to WCON and prerecorded. All questions will be screened.
The congressional debate will follow this format:
There will be a one-minute introduction from the moderator, followed by a two-minute opening statement from each candidate. The name of the candidate who speaks first will be drawn from a hat. Questions will begin after the opening statements. Responses will be timed. The limit will be 45 seconds per question per candidate. Candidates will rotate in order from question to question.
At the end of the debate, each candidate will have two minutes to make closing remarks. Whichever candidate gave the first two-minute opening statement will speak second in closing remarks. Dress will be coat and tie.
