Alliance In Athens For Ethics Town Hall Meeting
Group holds meeting at Tate Student Center to share plans and receive feedback on a comprehensive ethics reform bill
Atlanta, Georgia, December 6, 2012 - Members of the Georgia Alliance for Ethics Reform, along with members of the state legislature including State Senator Josh McKoon, will hold a town hall meeting in Athens on Monday night for area residents to hear plans about and contribute thoughts on a comprehensive ethics reform package of legislation that will be introduced during the 2013 Legislative Session.

Georgia Ethics Reform Town Hall Meeting
Monday, December 10, 2012
7 to 8 PM
Tate Student Center, 25 Baxter Street, Room 480
Athens, GA 30602
The Ethics Alliance is holding eight other town hall meetings around the state, including
Augusta, Albany, Macon, Columbus, Savannah, Brunswick, Dalton and Atlanta.
"This is an exciting opportunity for Georgia citizens to help shape a strong ethics bill and help our group continue the strong momentum created by the voices of voters this summer who sent the message to legislative candidates that real ethics reform is needed," said William Perry, Executive Director of Common Cause Georgia (CCGA), one of the groups leading the Ethics Alliance.
This summer, CCGA, the Georgia Tea Party Patriots and Georgia Conservatives in Action formed a separate Alliance that successfully brought attention to Republican and Democratic primary ballot questions that asked about limiting lobbyist gifts to legislators. Republican voters responded to limiting the gifts with 87% voting "yes", while 72% of Democrats voted in favor of the reform.
"Limiting gifts is not the only answer however," added Perry.  "In order to improve Georgia's worst-in-the-nation ranking on ethics laws, we must pass real, comprehensive reform that includes strong enforcement of the laws we hope to improve."
The Georgia Alliance for Ethics Reform includes Common Cause Georgia, Georgia Conservatives in Action, Georgia Tea Party Patriots, the League of Women Voters of Georgia and Georgia Watch.
Common Cause is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to restoring the core values of American democracy, reinventing an open, honest, and accountable government that works for the public interest, and empowering ordinary people to make their voices heard. Common Cause Georgia is the state organization for the national association.
