"This is an exciting opportunity for Georgia citizens to help shape a strong ethics bill and help our group continue the strong momentum created by the voices of voters this summer who sent the message to legislative candidates that real ethics reform is needed," said William Perry, Executive Director of Common Cause Georgia (CCGA), one of the groups leading the Ethics Alliance. This summer, CCGA, the Georgia Tea Party Patriots and Georgia Conservatives in Action formed a separate Alliance that successfully brought attention to Republican and Democratic primary ballot questions that asked about limiting lobbyist gifts to legislators. Republican voters responded to limiting the gifts with 87% voting "yes", while 72% of Democrats voted in favor of the reform. "Limiting gifts is not the only answer however," added Perry.  "In order to improve Georgia's worst-in-the-nation ranking on ethics laws, we must pass real, comprehensive reform that includes strong enforcement of the laws we hope to improve." The Georgia Alliance for Ethics Reform includes Common Cause Georgia, Georgia Conservatives in Action, Georgia Tea Party Patriots, the League of Women Voters of Georgia and Georgia Watch.
