Oconee Historical Society January Meeting

Subject: Oconee Historical Society January Meeting

Happy New Year!

Please join us for our first 2013 meeting at 7 pm, Tuesday, January 22
at Ashford on Main in Watkinsville.

We recently completed our strategic plan and now have a clear focus
for the future.  Three main concentration areas have been selected:
identification of historic structures, collection of historic
artifacts, and gathering of oral histories.   We want to begin with an
inventory of historic structures so we are asking you to bring to the
meeting a list of five "historic" buildings you find interesting.
These structures can be ones you know a great deal about or ones you
would like to learn about.  Even if you don't have names for the
structures, addresses and/or photos of them would be helpful.  Our
first step will be to start gathering and compiling interesting
information about them.  It will be a big help to have you involved.
At the meeting we will discuss some methods useful in gathering
additional historical information about them.

Cari Goetcheus, a professor of Historic Preservation at UGA, will be
at the meeting to discuss plans for a class project concerning
historic homes in Watkinsville.  We have an opportunity to help in the
preparation for that project.

Hope to see you at this important meeting as we start our new year.

Ben Jackson
