Advisory: suspect identified
Hi Dan Matthews,
We apologize for the late hour of this alert.

The suspect from the chase earlier tonight has been identified as Charleston Jamal Croffie (21). He is described as being 5'11" tall and weighing 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and dark clothing.

Croffie fled from a Deputy who attempted to stop him for speeding. Croffie crashed near the Oconee Connector at the intersection of Daniels Bridge and Mars Hill Road and fled the scene on foot.

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
