It happened.  A bill that will limit women's access to safe and legal abortions was all but dead in the Georgia State Senate but it was revived today and tacked on to an unrelated bill that passed out of the chamber.  House Bill (HB) 246, relating to employee benefits for workers at the Georgia World Congress Center, was amended to include Senate Bill (SB) 164, which bans abortion coverage in state employees benefit plans. 
Now is time to act. 
Ask your state representative to disagree with the amended HB 246 when it comes up for a vote in the State House.

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
