Subject: The Pastures of Rose Creek: This Week's Market

Hello All!  Whoops!, these monday emails are going to take some getting used to...a little delayed - but here it is!

Happy Birthday, USA!

If the US is anything like my sister it will declare July it's birthday month and anticipate a steady shower of daily gifts.

Luckily for us, that is not the case.  I mean, what do you get a nation that's still in it's teenage years that it will fully appreciate?  She may be a teenager in nation years, but she is also, for most of us, our mother land - so do you go for a mother-y gift, like a hand made macaroni necklace? Or something more age appropriate, like a bedazzled iPhone?  Whatever it is - it would have to be ginormous.

All joking aside - Thursday is a big day for the US, her states, and public.  It's a day to celebrate our radical roots that gained our independence - a day to celebrate the very fiber of our communities... and of course, good ol' American grub.

This week commemorate our nation and tap into your ancestor's, ancestor's roots and do your "cook out" shopping the way it was done before 4th of July was "4th of July" - buying locally from the farmers who are also your neighbors - food grown right here in the fruited plains of our Georgia clay.

You'll us  at:

1.  TODAY - Oconee Farmers Market - First Chirstian Church, Watkinsville, 4-7 pm

2.  Saturday - Oconee Farmers Market - Courthouse, Watkinsville, 8 am - 1pm

3.  Saturday - West Broad Market, Athens, 10 am - 1 pm

**Central Bishop Market is closed for the holiday. **

Just in time for the cook out....

pecan wood chips (add a smokey flavor to your grilled foods!!)
onions
onions greens (try 'em sauteed in bacon grease and topped on a burger!!)
squash
zucchini
cucumbers
beets
cranberry-almond biscotti (saturdays only)
some "maybes":  blackberries, okra, tomatoes (they're coming!!)

oh yes....and farm fresh eggs!!

Hope to see y'all this week and have a wonderful and safe "4th!"

For the love of community and all things farming,

Your local farmers,

Will, Matt, John & Dana
