Don't forget to put our History on the Lawn event on your calendar. (November 10 1-6 at Ashford Manor and Ashford on Main). If you are planning to participate please let us know this week. We are working on publicity and a map so our visitors can located various activities and we need that information by Monday November 4th at the latest.Below you will find the latest description of activities, though by the 10th there may be more. Check out our facebook page to keep track.PeggyCome join the Oconee County Historical Society for our first annual History on the Lawn Celebration, November 10 1:00 to 6:00pm. Bring your own picnic lunch for an old time dinner on the grounds at Ashford Manor and Ashford on Main in Downtown Watkinsville.Do you wish you had digital copies of your old photos? Bring them to share. We will have scanners on site to copy your photos for our archives and we will send you digital copies. Old letters, news clipping, diaries and other things you'd like to have scanned are welcome too.Do you love telling stories about how things used to be in Oconee County? Come and participate in our oral history project. We will have some enthusiastic students for the University of North Georgia set up to interview you and record your stories for future generations to listen to.Explore the other booths and activities. Julia Grant and some of her friends will be sharing stories over tea. I hear that there may be a famous Civil War spy in the group. Some cavalry friends may come too. Some people who remember Old Time Watkinsville will be on hand to answer questions. Bring things you have always wondered about to ask. See if you can stump our experts. Bonnie Montgomery will be demonstrating her weaving. The members of the Sons of the American Revolution will be back with their guns. Vicky Moody will be reading Louisa Ashford's letters. The Red Oaks Band will be providing music. Denise Weiner and Gary Doster will be available to sign books. There will be activities for kids, historical videos and photos to view and people to talk to. Come dressed in historical clothing and enter our costume contest. Help Beckah Kanipe figure out what to include in the historical mural she wants to paint for the Girl Scout Gold Project.
