The Oconee County Historical Society will have a special meeting Monday October 21 at Ashford on Main.  Anyone interested in helping us work on details concerning the collecting of oral histories and scanning of documents/photos at the event in November is welcome to join us.
If you know of any crafters, other historical groups etc. that might like to participate in our event please invite them and let us know if they say yes.  Also if you know of someone you think would make a good candidate for an oral history interview please let us know.  We'd like to work on inviting them to be there.
Here is the next program of the Sons of confederate Veterans if you are interested in Stonewall Jackson.
"Origins of the Mighty Stonewall" will be the title of a program presented by Scott Gilbert at the meeting of the Brig. Gen. T.R.R. Cobb Camp No. 97 Sons of Confederate Veterans November 7 at 7:00 pm at the Watkinsville Community Center, VFW Drive.  Gilbert will relate a personal history of the life and times of Thomas Jackson leading up to the War Between the States and the earning of his famous nickname "Stonewall."  Jackson is presented as a young child battling the loss of his parents, and the struggles to survive and achieve success as a husband, father, educator, and soldier.  Gilbert is current commander of SCV Camp No. 79 in Fayette County and past commander of the Georgia Division of the SCV.  He is active in several other historical, heritage, and civic organizations and is in demand as a speaker.
