Subject: [oconee] Up for Discussion: The New Jim Crow
We'll be discussing Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow," an
important and award-winning book about racial injustice, for the Oconee
Democrats' October book. Local attorney Pam Hendrix will lead the
discussion.
A reviewer for the New York Review of Books wrote: "Striking . . .
Alexander deserves to be compared to [writer and activist W.E.B.] Du
Bois in her ability to distill and lay out as mighty human drama a
complex argument and history."
The group will meet upstairs at Chops and Hops in the Town Center
complex (2 S. Main Street in Watkinsville) on Wednesday, October 30th.
Participants arrive early to order dinner and chat so that the book
discussion begins promptly at 7.
Newcomers of any political affiliation and from any county are welcome.
Drop in sometime!
