Letter to the Editor from Nancy DeRemo to the Oconee Enterprise

 Dear Editor:

Oconee School has had five teens kill themselves in the last three
years because of being bullied. But Oconee County Schools has only
reported three report bulling incidents in the last year. This because
it is up to the Principal of the school to decide if a student was
bullied or it was impulsive behavior on part of another student. If
the Principal decides it is impulsive behavior on the part of student
then the other parent is not notified nor is told about the incident.
My son in 9th grade at OCHS had senior boy rub his butt against my son
private parts as he was leaving the lunch room in the morning. My son
chased the boy down the hallway. I never was told about it and Mrs.
Korngold (the Special Education Director for OCHS) notify me that she
was at high school that day and my son was having wonderful day (the
first time she done this). My daughter told me that day all the
students in the high school where talking about what happen to her
brother. Since I was not notified about about the action of the other
student then the Prinicpal decides this was implusive act on behave of
the other student. Nor would the Principle tell me what happened. Most
of our video cameras don't work at the school so I could not see what
happen. If we are able to build a new sport complex at the high school
should not the video camera be fixed to ensure the safety of are
students. Nor would the School Board give me any information to me
about what happen to my son that day.

I feel that the administration at OCHS are more concerned about their reputation than the
safety of are students at school.

Nancy DeRemo
