SPEED LIMITS TO CHANGE
Monday's called Council meeting on speeds was a lively one, with several residents in attendance. It lasted until after 10 pm, and Mayor Mike Beall was still writing it all up after midnight. The rest of his week wasn't much better, as he was busy getting the ordinance ready for first reading at the called Council meeting on February 10. The second reading will occur at the regularly scheduled Council meeting one week later. The State doesn't make it easy to change speeds, but assuming Council votes in the affirmative, these new limits will be in effect when the new signs are posted:

Arborwood Ridge: 25 mph
Dickens Lane: 25 mph
Elder Rd: 35 mph
Frazier Hill Rd: 25 mph
Gober Rd, from SR 186 to Frazier Hill: 25 mph
Gober Rd, from Frazier Hill to Town limits: 35 mph
Hillsboro Rd, from SR186 to Dickens, 25 mph

Jefferson Rd, from 0.2 mile west of Dickens to Hillsboro: 35 mph
Lakeside Ct: 25 mph
Lakeside Dr: 25 mph
New High Shoals Rd, from SR186 to Town limit: 35 mph
Old Elder Rd (aka Elder Rd Extension): 25 mph
Plantation Rd: 20 mph
Ray's Church Rd, from 0.4 mile northeast of Hillsboro Rd to Town limits: 35 mph
Ray's Church Rd, from Hillsboro Rd northeast for 0.4 mile: 25 mph
Ridgefield Dr: 25 mph
Shadyfield Ln: 15 mph
Speedway Rd: 15 mph
SR186, from 53' west of Jefferson to 2300' east of Gober: 45 mph

SR186 School Zone, from 350' west of Gober to 2300' east of Gober, 35 mph
TRAFFIC CALMING METHODS UNDER REVIEW
At the same called meeting Council established the following priority list of roads where speed bumps or tables might be suitable:

1. Hillsboro (possible combined raised crosswalk/speed table), additional bumps or tables
2. Rays Church
3. Plantation
4. Jefferson
5. Elder Road (possible raised crosswalk where there is presently a painted one)

Councilman Jason Wisniewski has since submitted a detailed report, a copy of which is attached to the electronic version of this newsletter. If you have any thoughts, now is the time to share them.

ONE MORE CROSSWALK TO CONSIDER

This writer has suggested a crosswalk between Town Hall and the Post Office. We have foot traffic there, and crossing the street can be dicey, given the speeding vehicles veering off of SR 186. Let The Messenger or Town Council know what you think.

BASEBALL MITT FOUND AT PARK

If you lost one, it just might be sitting in Town Hall right now. Call Carolyn Monday or Tuesday and she'll help you out.
