Subject: a historical program of interest

"Charged with Treason: The Ordeal of the Roswell Mill Workers" will be the title of a program by Phillip Whiteman at the meeting of the Brig. Gen. T.R.R. Cobb Camp No. 97 Sons of Confederate Veterans Thursday June 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Watkinsville Community Center VFW  Drive.   In July 1864, during the Federal march on Atlanta, Union troops entered the town of Roswell and burned three textile mills.  Under explicit orders from Gen. W. T. Sherman about 400 civilian mill workers, mostly women and children, were abducted and transported to Marietta; from there they were transported north and the fate of most of them remains unknown.  Whiteman is the Park Historian for the Kennesaw National Battlefield.
