Endorsements, Support for Valarie Wilson Grow
Johnson, Mosby, Robinzine, Martin believe Wilson best suited for state sch super
Decatur, Ga. - June 23, 2014 - Support of Valarie Wilson's campaign for state school superintendent continues to grow as the July 22 primary runoff election approaches. In recent days support has come from some of Georgia's most prominent Democratic leaders, including Congressman Hank Johnson, State Representative Howard Mosby and Democratic nominee for State Senate Elena Parent. Rita Robinzine and Joe Martin also are endorsing Wilson.

"I am pleased to support Valarie Wilson for State School Superintendent because I share her vision of making public education a priority in Georgia.  Valarie is a champion of public schools and will be a strong advocate for public education investments. I hope others will join me in supporting a bright future for Georgia by voting for Valarie Wilson, a proven leader," said Johnson.

Rep. Howard Mosby who chairs the House Democratic DeKalb delegation said Wilson had a tremendous ability to understand underlying problems and create workable solutions.

"I've had the opportunity to work with Valarie Wilson on many occasions. She is a gifted leader with a passion for education and children. I cannot think of a better person ready to take on the challenges of Georgia's public education. She is the right person at the right time," Mosby said.

Robinzine who challenged Wilson in the May primary election said
Wilson's leadership can be trusted, because she is not taking any money from special interest groups whose interests might run counter to the advancement of public education.

"I am supporting Valarie because she is not taking money from organizations that will destroy the integrity of not only public schools, but the teaching profession as a whole. I also support her because she is supportive of teachers having fair evaluation systems that are not unfairly tied to test scores like the one Students First pushed for in this state - an organization that heavily funds Valarie's opponent," Robinzine said.

Joe Martin, who was the Democratic nominee for State School Superintendent in 2010 said he proud to endorse Wilson.

"Valarie cherishes our public schools and is determined to strengthen them for the benefit of every student. Valarie will put our students first without catering to the private investors who want to turn our schools into money making ventures. She supports charter schools with parental leadership and responsible operators, but will not sacrifice our children in the race to privatize public education," Martin said.

Martin said Wilson's experience as the chair of her local school board has taught her the value of a united effort, and her service as president of the Georgia School Board Association has shown her the distinct needs in every community.

"She is the proven leader and consensus-builder we urgently need for public education in Georgia," Martin said.

Wilson previously was endorsed by Senate Democratic Whip Vincent Fort, House Democratic Whip Carolyn Hugley, Senate Democratic Leader Steve Henson, Sens. Ed Harbison, Emanuel Jones, David Lucas, Nan Orrock, Freddie Powell Sims, Gloria Butler, Ron Ramsey, along with House Reps. Simone Bell, Sharon Beasley-Teague, Pam Stephenson, Debbie Buckner, Roger Bruce, Pam Dickerson, Gloria Frazier, Mary Margaret Oliver, Henry Howard, Nikki Randall, Earnest Smith, Mickey Stephens, David Wilkerson and Coach Williams.
