Right now, we have a chance to do something extraordinary. We have a chance to stand up for Georgia families with members who have life-threatening illnesses that are treatable by medical marijuana.
Currently, many Georgia families are faced with an impossible decision: Wait for lawmakers to advance legislation or uproot their families and seek treatment in other states.
This is a decision that no family should have to make.
That's why Better Georgia has launched a petition calling on our legislators to legalize medical marijuana in Georgia.
Sign the petition
With strong support from 69 percent of doctors, the parents of children who suffer from severe seizures and the public, it is time to legalize medical marijuana in Georgia.
A total of 23 states and the District of Columbia now allow for comprehensive public medical marijuana and cannabis programs.
More than one million U.S. patients receive the treatment for a wide range of conditions--from multiple sclerosis and nausea caused by cancer chemotherapy to Crohn's disease and seizure disorders.
CNN's chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta has been vocal in his support for legalizing medical marijuana and doctors across the nation share his professional opinion.
It's not enough for our governor and other state leaders to slow walk clinical trials in Georgia when other states have made much more progress so quickly. Both the science and the support from the medical community are there and now we need real leaders who will take action.
These Georgia families can't afford to wait. And they shouldn't have to.
Tell your lawmakers to support Georgia families who would benefit from legalized medical marijuana.

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
