ARREST

On September 29, 2015 Athens-Clarke County Police located and apprehended Pedro Alvarado, 43, of Athens. Alvarado is charged with Aggravated Assault and Battery in relation to the September 20 assault on a 19-year old female University of Georgia student on the Greenway in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy near College Avenue. The victim was walking on the Greenway when she was grabbed from behind. She was able to fight off her attacker and suffered minor injuries. The suspect fled the scene; however, based on information from the victim and witnesses, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation forensic artist developed a sketch of the suspect. In order to generate investigative leads from the community, this sketch was subsequently released to the public, along with a physical description of the suspect and items of clothing recovered from the scene. Investigators received several calls from our courageous citizens and specific information provided by the citizens was critical in developing the identity of Alvarado. This case remains under investigation and anyone with additional information related to this assault is asked to contact Detective Chris Brogden at 706-613-3888 Ext 312; or Detective Nathan Hayes at 706-613-3888 Ext 681 or the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 706-613-3342.
