North Oconee, Oconee County golf teams among participants in first Athens Classic

n fact, North Oconee coach Terry Tuley estimates they turned down 40 potential participants.


“It’s a great venue and high school teams that go and play, this will be one of their tougher tests,” Tuley said.


The tournament, held by the Athens Area Junior Golf Tour , features
27 teams from multiple classifications, including the boys and girls
teams from North Oconee, Athens Academy and Oconee County. Prince Avenue
Christian’s boys team will also participate.The tournament will be
played at the University of Georgia golf course.

James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
