Oconee County resident Angela Eells wins 4th delegate slot in 10th district

Angela Eells wins the much sought-after lone Bernie Sanders slot for the 10th district convention in Greensboro Saturday.  Athens' own Dawn Bennett Alexander and James Dustin Baker were elected for the Hillary Clinton slot along with Quinton Howell of Baldwin County.

Due to the gender alternating rule in regard to delegate selection, Angela Eells did not even have to face an actual vote to get a chance to attend the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this summer. Democratic National Committee rules stipulate that the alternate gender is awarded the slot if one is available and running.
The Hillary Clinton supporters were entitled to three out of the four delegates due the vote tally of the Tenth Congressional district, which now somehow stretches from McDonough to Athens, Winder to near Augusta, and only some parts in between. Greensboro was the location for this event, and it was run very well by Patsy Harris of Morgan County. New 10th district chair Melinda Ryder of Greene County did an admirable job of bringing together this gathering with very little notice and publicity.  James Dustin Baker and Employment law business professor Dawn Bennett Alexander of Athens won the delegate slots for Hillary Clinton along with Baldwin County Democratic Party chair Quentin T. Howell.

In theory Eells would have run against the bow-tied gentlemen who ran the Athens Bernie Sanders headquarters on Prince Avenue for a couple of months. There is talk that it may reopen depending on how things go in June or July.
Lots of good old fashioned politicking and shaking of hands and bringing your friends is what wins these kind of gatherings, along with good speeches and maybe cookies and donuts. All this was here and then some this afternoon in Greene County. Former Congressman John Barrow was very popular with all the voters. The Greene County folks did a fine job counting the votes and tabulating the results, not to mention some good old Southern hospitality.
