Extreme intoxication: Woman brought to Athens hospital with .566 blood-alcohol level

An Oconee County woman who was bought unconscious into the emergency
room of an Athens hospital this week had a blood-alcohol concentration
of .566 percent — seven times the level at which it is illegal to drive.

Her level of intoxication was the highest in a living person that a senior local police official had ever heard of.

The 30-year-old woman was carried into the emergency room at St.
Mary’s Hospital by an unidentified male who told a nurse he found the
woman lying partially naked on the property of The Lodge at Athens on
North Avenue, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report.

When brought to the hospital sometime after 3 a.m. Tuesday, the woman
was wearing only a pair of black Nike workout pants, according to the
police report. Her eye was said to be bruised, as was her forehead, and
she had gravel and scratches all over her legs and upper torso.
