Dear friends and allies:
Last night, while I was attending a virtual public forum for Oconee County residents, a group of unidentified participants joined the Zoom. One of these Zoom-bombers proceeded to call me the n-word and told me to "shut up" before I even had a chance to introduce myself. It was disappointing to have this experience while trying to meet my future constituents, but I know that hate and racism are part of politics. As a Black woman, I face racism every day, but it does not stop me from working hard and fighting for those who may not always agree with me. Instances like last night will never stop me from trying to reach voters. You can watch my closing statement to the forum below.
This is not the first attack I have experienced since starting my run for House District 117. My opponent has said nothing about the racist smear campaign against me, and his silence on these issues perpetuates people like the Zoom-bomber to continue to spread hate. What was said to me was wrong, but I am not afraid. Experiences like these are one of the reasons I am running for office.

Join me at the UGA Arch this Saturday at 12 p.m. for a rally to Stand Up to Racism. Let's be clear that we will not accept vicious, hate-filled attacks in our community. Instead, we will continue to unite against hate, because the fight is not over.
If you want to help fight back against racism right now, sign up with my campaign. We have plenty of opportunities in the next few weeks to wave signs, phone bank, and greet people waiting in line at the polls.
