Terry Holley response to James Hanby's quitting

Personnel matters are never easy to discuss. It is like airing personal dirty laundry, and it is never a good thing to do so a few days before an election. With the early voting starting today, I wanted to pass along this email just sent to me from Terry Holley concerning his former chief of staff quiting the race and emailing everyone he could, thus making more enemies than friends for this former campaign chair from Delaware.

Hanby showed up to two Oconee Democrats meetings, once bragging about traveling all the way from Delaware to have come to one. I wish again nothing but the best for this person, but just wish he might have decided to exit the campaign with a little more tact and professionalism than the childish manner in which he choose to depart.

The very experienced and able-bodied Terrance Dix took over the fay to day campaign manager duties after being the Get Out the Vote person for Holley.

I hope everyone votes for Terry Holley in spite of any difficulties with personal personnel deviations or decisions:

Letter to the Editor

October 26, 2006

Dear Editor:

The article concerning my campaign was most interesting. Hopefully this letter will help the voters separate fact from fiction. James Hanby, my former chief of staff, agreed to a fee for a job completed and he failed to finish that task and quit six weeks early. Of 128 days that he was involved in the campaign, he was absent 33 days with no illness involved.

In the beginning he asked only to be reimbursed for expenses until the end of October. He complains of no health insurance for his children, but gave a large, unsolicited donation, ($1000.00), while also buying a car, computer, and other expensive items, but wants to blame the campaign for his seemingly poor judgment.

After only a month and a half on the campaign, he was evidently restless and unfocused and was looking for other employment in the field he had just left as a bank customer service representative. Mr. Hanby left without giving any notice.

I personally called him when he did not show up for a scheduled event and called him again after the event to be sure he was not sick or had been involved in an accident. There was no answer either time. As a matter of fact, I did not hear by phone from him until one week later. But, in the interim, he continued to use campaign resources like his cell phone and campaign materials which he neither owned nor had purchased.

Mr. Hanby began to not attend meetings and events on a regular basis and seemed to go against the campaign’s decision to begin a true grassroots campaign approximately six weeks ago. This is what the voters told me they wanted, someone to come out and actually see and talk with them.

Had he not quit, he could not have continued with this campaign. For some reason, his memory seems to have failed him and he wants to blame others for his lack of good judgment. He was advised before he began that any campaign was risky and that there were no guarantees.

I want to assure voters that this campaign has not missed a beat and had someone in place to continue the one promise I made on the first day---to work just as hard every day as you do. Our message and position has not wavered and I stand committed to the voters of the 10th congressional district.

With regards,

R. Terry Holley, Candidate

U.S. Congress

Georgia’s 10th District
