FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monday, December 20, 2010
Oconee County, GA. Democrats select Dan Matthews as chair again
The Oconee County Democratic Committee met before their holiday party on a cold Sunday evening in mid December to select Daniel Johnson Matthews, Junior as their chair for their county committee. The Oconee Dems meet every third Thursday of the month in Watkinsville.
“I am very humbled by your election, and will do my best to bring issues and candidates of interest to all Oconee County voters to the forefront for the next two years,” said Matthews, 47, of Watkinsville. Matthews has served as chair before for the Oconee County Democrats, having served in 2005 and 2006 in a tenure marked by rotating businesses as the meeting sites and bringing speakers such as Michael Thurmond and a Georgia Secretary of State debate to the Courthouse in Watkinsville.
The Oconee County Democratic Committee meets next at 7:00 pm Thursday, January 21, 2011 at Jittery Joe’s in Watkinsville located at 27 Greensboro Highway
Watkinsville, GA 30677 (706) 769-4280 at the five points intersection of the business route of the Macon (441) and Greensboro (15) Highways in the southern edge of downtown Watkinsville, Georgia.

The committee also voted to replace former chair and longtime Oconee County Board of Elections and Planning Commission William Yarborough with Dr. Robert Wyatt on the Oconee County Board of Elections. Members of the county committee were delighted to learn that Yarborough plans to continue to lend his considerable experience and expertise to the Board of Elections as a private citizen when he can find time between being an active grandparent, a Realtor, a football referee, an employee at the Stegeman Coliseum and owner of Elizabeth Ann Florist in Watkinsville.
Matthews plans on continuing the county committee’s sponsorship of clean ups on the Oconee Connector and bringing a variety of speakers to the monthly meetings. Matthews writes a blog called Oconee County, GA Politics at http://oconeedemocrat.blogspot.com and looks forward to working with Veit to getting the official party website back and running as soon as possible.
