Oconee Democratic Committee meeting for February goes well

Thank you for all those who packed the house this evening for the first of the bimonthly meetings of the Oconee County Democratic Committee. I was delighted to finally see my favorite columnist of the moment John MacKay and his lovely northern Italian bride of North High Shoals and very grateful to have his spine in defending the Oconee Enterprise newspaper from the slings and arrows of some of our more learned members.

I adore Margaret Holt as much as she loves recently anointed DeKalb County Board of Education leader Michael Thurmond and only regret not being interviewed with her about the lexicon of language used locally. I think the idea of her husband Stef about having one idea inspired me to use that as a means of introductions for the next meetings with a definitive idea for each of us to coalesce around. Mine would be reduced to sidewalks. It was good to hear and see from people who are fed up with the lack of alternatives to the Republican status quo.

The marketplace of ideas were shopped around and many an interesting tale of telling about public leaders being quoted at meetings they did not attend sends messages of misrepresentation. Especially when the newspaper would write "well that is what you would have said" if you did attend the meeting, times three. I decided to drop Miss Vinnie a postcard asking her if she knew her name sake on the Georgia basketball team who had just driven the length of the court in less than six seconds to miss a layup in losing at Fayetteville at Bud Walton Arena.

We had every seat filled at the table, and Carolyn Crawford and Wendy Wade did their best to try and keep the record well executed. We signed a big old card for Violet Dawe's 70th birthday and she wants some coffee brought to her. So be it, said Nancy DeRemo, disappointed with the lack of attendance at the Board of Education and the weaponry fired in her Watkinsville neighborhood. Yes folks, there has been gunfire within the streets of our sleepy municipality.

Oconee County's Larry Sheats will be commemorated at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Atlanta March, but not sure if any of us will be there to see it. Thank you Wendy Wade for sending a photo to Angelia Knight at the Democratic Party of Georgia for the photo.  Rest in peace Larry, we still love you in Watkinsville. He always had a hug for me at Bethel Baptist.

We paid dues, and exchanged stories. No decisions were made on clean up of the Connector with no Sarajane Love present (she was probably at the Lady Dawgs' stomping of the Arkansas Razorsows at the nearby Coliseum). We wish Vicky Moody well and will see Peggy Thrasher Law at the next meeting.

We will meet back at the Government Annex on Thursday, April 18 with State Representative Spencer Frye and Bryan Long of Better Georgia.  Then we get to go to the Ashford on Main at Seven South Main Street to get to hear for Clarkston, Georgia Mayoral Candidate Ted Terry and probably some other candidates on Thursday, June 20th.

Pat Adams and Dr. Robert Wyatt will help in any way asked for the registration of 17 and a half year old voters in as nonpartisan manner as possible sometime in April if we connect with Lori Burkhard and Jennifer Strickland at Oconee County High School. We hope to do the same at all the other high schools in the area. We should invite Brian Brodrick, Brian Kemp, and Blake Giles to talk to us at some crossover meeting in the future. I would also recommend the University of Georgia's Dr. Charles Bullock and Dr. Audrey Haynes as Oconee County Political Scientists who could come talk to us.
