CAPOMACCHIA REQUEST SET FOR DEC 30The Town Council will hold a Public Hearing and Called Meeting on Dec. 30, 2013 at 2 pm, at Town Hall. These are to consider Anthony Capomacchia's rezoning and subdividing request for his acreage at the corner of Elder and New High Shoals Roads. It is our understanding that Mr. Capomacchia hopes to rezone his property from the current R1 PUD to A-2, and to subdivide it from the current 2 parcels to 4. The net result if approved, we're told, will be less density (5 acre lots instead of 2 acre lots.) Questions? Concerns? Confused? Contact Town Hall and please, attend the hearing and meeting if you can.
There will likely be discussion of speed limits and traffic calming as well. If you cannot attend, please contact your Council members beforehand and let them know what you think.
RED HOUSE KITCHEN GETS AN OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATE
Most of us have enjoyed the wonders that emanate from Nan DeColaines' kitchen. At its meeting on December 16, 2013 Town Council issued her Red House Kitchen an Occupational Certificate. There aren't going to be any changes on Plantation Road; Nan got the Certificate with an eye toward having a kitchen elsewhere that can provide meals for people who can't afford them. Thank you Nan!DOGS IN THE NEWS
Dog Story No. 1: Remember that poor, chained German Shepherd on the cover of last month's High Shoals Messenger? He's not chained up anymore, thanks to the efforts of High Shoals resident Bella Lorena de Santa and Animal Control Director Catlyn Vickers. Armed with Lorena's online Written Statement for Citation Request (with The Messenger story attached), Cat was able to bring the owner into compliance. Thank you to everyone involved, including the dog's owner for coming around.
Dog Story No. 2: The Fifth Annual North High Shoals Dog Day has been scheduled for April 26, 2014. It's the fifth, let's make this one special! We'll do this every year as long as you folks keep turning out! Volunteers and vendors are needed, please contact The Messenger if you can help.
Dog Story No. 3: If you see an animal in harm's way, Cat Vickers can help. You can reach her at 706.769.3956 or cvickers@oconee.ga.us. If you think an animal may not be getting proper care, you can say so online by going to www.oconeecounty.com, click on Departments and then Animal Control. You will see Online Forms on the left, click on Complaint Form / Written Statement. Sometimes you just have to speak out.
