Few photos of this weekend's OCAF Wine Fest frivolity at Ashford Manor in Watkinsville

The weather was absolutely perfect for the 2014 Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation Fall Wine Fest fundraiser at Ashford Manor Bed and Breakfast with dozens of restaurants from Watkinsville and Athens participating in the event.

My favorite dish was the pulled pork Gouda mac and cheese from Chops and Hops or perhaps the two authentic crepe makers showing how the work was done. Chef Jose Zambrano and his staff including Bela Steward at Girasoles did a fine job as well. If anything there was so much amazing food that you had to pick and choose about halfway through it.

The 2014 OCAF Wine Fest was an outstanding event with an auction and food from many of the area's finest restaurants and plenty of beer and wine to go around. With the special events permit as well as beer and wine pouring license proudly displayed, a gathering of a few hundred people dutifully lined up at 3:00 pm and had their licenses checked and auction cards filled out.

Naturally I bid on a basketball signed by University of Georgia's women's hoop Coach Andy Landers and men's hoop coach Mark Fox (both Oconee County residents) and was unsure if I won or not.

I hope they both end up in the Final Four this season.
It was great seeing so many people pour into Ashford Manor for such a gracious and glorious event and not have the slightest hitch or problem. OCAF director Cindy Farley earned her stripes in pulling off such a major fundraiser flawlessly, and all the volunteers are to be commended, not to mention the many wine and beer providers and restaurant employees and owners handing out food samples.

My buddy James Vann from Kumquat Mae and Boxworks Custom Motorcycles invited me to sit at the Kumquat Mae table and watched the world go by.

I am happy that this once Watkinsville restaurant will be relocating next door to Cofer's Home and Garden on Mitchell Bridge Road, and it was great to talk to Stuart and his wife at the event as well. I can't wait until their November 1 opening at the new location.

James was interviewed by the Oconee Enterprise newspaper reporter Michael Benjamin Prochaska and asked about the relocation of his girlfriend Trae's restaurant and his answer was perfect, but I must let you check out the pages of the Enterprise for his response.

It was nice to see Kumquat Mae owner and Watkinsville resident Trae Stewart, Sharon Dahlhaus and Trae's daughter Bela Stewart as well.

BrittnyTeree Smith was a wonderful person to run into there, as well as Ashford Manor Bed and Breakfast co-owner Mario Castro. Introduced Mario to my friend Brant Rackley of Athens who was their with his lovely wife.

Thank you to all the folks who asked about my campaign and how it is going so far.

Nice to see Nickey Turner Brooks and her son Miles, as well as her sister Sherry Turner-Seila and to meet all of Sherry's friends as well.
