Fwd: BOE and Ballots

Begin forwarded message: From: Lee Becker < lbbecker@mindspring.com > Date: May 22, 2010 11:00:55 PM EDT To: lbbecker@mindspring.com Subject: BOE and Ballots Reply-To: lbbecker@mindspring.com Dear Friends, Voters in the July 20 primary could well be a little confused if the Oconee County Board of Education follows through with its proposed method for filling the vacancy left when one member resigned earlier this month. The ballots already are at the printer. To see why this is a problem, go to my blog: http://oconeecountyobservations.blogspot.com/2010/05/oconee-county-ballot-for-july-20.html You'll also get details of a candidate forum and learn about rumors of write-in and independent candidacies. Suzy Compere talks to the Oconee County Democratic Committee

They backed down

Image
Friend -- On Thursday, the Senate passed historic Wall Street reform. This movement proved again that the strongest special interests, who for so long have called the shots in Washington, can be beat. When opponents in Congress tried to block the legislation altogether, you stood up -- and they backed down. When the lobbyists pushed for loopholes and exemptions just before a final vote, you did not relent -- and we fought them off. Your support brought us to this day -- and, because of that, we're poised to implement sensible reforms that will provide a stronger foundation for economic growth. Now, the House and Senate must iron out their differences before I can sign it into law. But the financial industry will not give up. They have already spent more than $1 million per member of Congress, lobbying on this issue. And in the coming days, they will go all in. This is their last shot to stall, weaken, or kill reform, and they are not accustomed to losing. But this movem...

Here is a brief clip of the Bostwick homeowner and nonprofit founder talking to the Oconee County Democratic Committee the other evening in Watkinsville.

Oconee Farmer's Market and Saturday Strolls around Harris Shoals Park

Image
Actually went by last weekend and purchased a few items on a Saturday after the Stroll around Harris Shoals Park. The wetlands should be good and ready for another informative walk this weekend around the Park with the Oconee County Democratic Committee-sponsored walks, which have raised more than $400.00 for local charities with the informative nature jaunts around this wonderful park. Then go purchase some local food behind Eagle Tavern and support the farmers and the Oconee County economy people - come on, it is your duty! I am hoping it is dry Saturday morning and not have to deal with the rains ruining bike to work day for me Friday. Woven dryly and staunchly,  Daniel J. Suzy Compere introduces herself to the Oconee Democrats

Image
House District 113th Democratic candidate Suzy Compere addressed and answered the considerable questions of the Oconee County Democratic Committee meeting Wednesday evening at the Oconee County Governmental Annex. The Bostwick activist has worked with many well known and hallowed Georgia political giants ranging from Frank Stancil to Zell Miller.  She was urged to run and received assistance in paying for qualifying fees from a wide array of powerful Democratic candidates from Governor among many others including former Athenian Stephanie Stuckey Benfield of Decatur and Patsy Harris of Franklin County. She runs on ambition with compassion and supports small businesses as the main economic generators as she is a small business owner and successful non-profit organizer.  She has given away greenhouses out of state but cannot find a governmental entity to accept one here. Compere is the granddaughter of an Arkansas activist during the Faubus years.  She is a pro-jobs Dem...

Oconee County Board of Education Announces Process to Fill Vacancy on Board

Image
This is the actual memo sent to parents a few hours ago - when the candidates qualified they did not know of this situation with Breedlove's resignation, so this has the disingenuous stink of a bait and switch at the very least _______________________________________________ ocsinfo mailing list ocsinfo@web.oconee.k12.ga.us http://web.oconee.k12.ga.us/mailman/listinfo/ocsinfo You may ask - My God what have I done? BOE moves forward with plans to replace Breedlove

I do not deny they have the authority to add anyone any way they see fit, I just do not agree with the method in their madness The Oconee Enterprise > Latest Updates > BOE moves forward with plans to replace Breedlove Posted using ShareThis

Oconee BOE gives incumbents and qualified challengers the inside track to replace Breedlove

Is there something rotten on School Street? Just when I thought they could not get any wackier with the appointment process to finish the term of Tennessee-bound Tom Breedlove, they seem to outdo themselves once again in the closed door meetings of the BOE. Never underestimate the committee decision making process, especially when done in private. Somehow the Oconee County Board of Education continues to make the absolute worst decision when it comes to perpetuating an image of leadership buffoonery and insider cronyism continuing in our public education system. The four candidates who have paid the $54.00 before the recent weeklong timeframe and qualified for the forthcoming 2010 Board of Education Elections - primary and general - will get first crack at replacing Tom Breedlove's recently vacated position. So that means Mack Guest, Kim Argo, and qualified challengers Democrat Carter Strickland and Republican  Mark Thomas get to decide if they want to complete the two and a ...

Little bits about not that many things

This Insider Advantage snapshot tells me there is about a 15% Redneck polling bloc in the Georgia Republican party, probably about the same in the Democratic party too. Matt Towery lost a large amount of his credibility with shenanigans in the recent past, so I would not place too much stock in anything his poll indicates at the point. Still I bet the people at Karen Handel's campaign were none too pleased with the results showing them in third in what is almost certain to be a run-off in the Republican primary in less than two months. In an unrelated matter, I saw my first Kirk Shook yard sign on Main Street in Watkinsville much more visible than Corky Elder's alleged No Trespassing sign. The man who claims to cook best butt in town verbally accosted a local business owner for having the gall to cross his used car repository on the way to the Southworks festival at OCAF a few weeks back. Democratic candidate Suzy Compere will dare step foot in the targeted Governmental Annex ...
